Shawnee Youth Coalition The Shawnee Youth Coalition, founded in 2002, finds it's beginnings in two surveys given to 6th through 8th grade students. The results showed that many area youth felt they held no role in the community. This student consensus was consistent with Search Institutes Profiles of Student Life: Attitudes and Behaviors, which projected that only 21% of Shawnee youth believed that adults in the community valued youth, and 16% sensed that they had a constructive role in the Shawnee community. Gateway has spearheaded the program to give youth an opportunity to become a deciding factor in their community. The result of this drive is an organization dedicated to its community and to making it the best that it can possibly be.
