Prevention
The Prevention Network
The Area Prevention Resource Center (APRC), serving Pottawatomie, Lincoln, Seminole and Okfuskee counties of Oklahoma, has been a Gateway program since 1989. The APRC is one in a network of fifteen across the state that works in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and the Tobacco Endowment Settlement Trust. The APRC provides high quality, comprehensive prevention and early intervention services.

The goal of the APRC is to assist community residents in reducing alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse. Also, we seek to reduce other related problems such as, teen pregnancy, depression, relational aggression, and violence. Staff and volunteers have developed long term community-wide efforts in Shawnee and other communities in the catchment area to help young people. The APRC also helps communities help themselves through advocacy and other environmental strategies that strengthen the bond between communities and their young people. Additionally, if needed, we assist the communities in changing the social norms around underage drinking.

The APRC clearinghouse provides a lending library of video tapes, audio tapes, books, and curricula to residents and workers in the Lincoln, Seminole, Okfuskee and Pottawatomie county service area. Brochures, posters, statistics, and other resources are also available.

Research Based Curriculum available for cheeckout to area schools:
Botvin's Life Skills Training (3-8 Grade)
Too Good for Drugs (1-3 Grade)
Second Step (Violence Prevention)
Project Alert (Middle School)
