The Regional Prevention Center through its various partnerships work on the challenge of underage drinking in Pottawatomie County. Below are just a few of the intiatives being taken.
The Shawnee Police Department is holding safety patrols on a regular basis and has agreed to set up their patrols on nights that teens are more likely to be driving after drinking (Prom, Graduation, after home football games).
Alcohol Compliance Checks are done in cooperation with area law enforcement professionals using youth from the local 2Much2Lose Club as decoys to make alcohol buys in local grocery stores, convenience stores and restaurants.
“We continue to encourage parents and other adults who care about children and youth to talk early and often about not drinking alcohol before the legal age of 21. Kids listen more than adults think they do.” For more information about the work being done in your community contact
